Need Advice Ford 8.8 Limited Slip

I'm looking for a factory limited slip for my 91 8.8 Ford Axle. I found a doner in the wrecking yard, a 98 Merc Grand Marquis with an axle tag "L 55". I believe this means 3.55 gears and limited slip. My question is is this an Equa Lock and if so should I look for a new Ranger with a limited slip? Meaning, I've heard people say you cannot find parts for the Equa Lock and they don't work as well as the new posi.....Is there a new type of limited slip from Ford that would be a better choice? I have 28 spline axles.
Thanks,
Dave

what kind of 8.8" are we talking about? Explorer and F-150 are 31 spline, and Ranger, Mustang, and Panther Chassis are 28 spline..

A Track lok out of an explorer will fit an F-150 axle and have a good ratio. just have to check pattern but it should be close. If it's a Ranger, than your looking at a Mustang for it's track lok or the Panther will also work but it may be equa lok

My axle is out of a 91 Grand Marquis. 28 spline open dif. I did some research and it looks like Ford did away with the Equa Loc by the mid 70's and everything went Trac Loc. So, again, I need a 8.8 Trac Loc 28 spline. So pretty much I'm asking if all 28 spline 8.8 limited slips are the same? Can't use the explorer or full size truck as they are all 31 spline. The ranger has 28 spline as does most of the cars.
Thanks,
Dave

All 28 spline units interchange.
You can buy a new one from Summit for less than $200 which should have the new design clutch.

I'm just curious but are those Ford Racing Trac Locs any different than the one I would pull from a wrecking yard axle? They say "heavy plate clutches" but that could be in the OE units....anyone, anyone? Ya $197 is pretty darn cheap....without gears and install kit but still.....
