1 hp per ci is not too shabby.

Getting 50 more would probably require new heads, cam, and induction.

You could probably find a low mileage donor 5.7 roller vortec for less money and add good cam and induction and reach 400 easily.

I've got a similar setup in my 81TA. Except its a 350. If my crank wasn't so good, it would be a stroked 383. I would guess that engine was previously blown up, maybe the reason for the shorter stroke crank?? It should work reasonably well, but if I were you and had an extra $1000 to play with, I'd get a stroker kit . Hold on then.

The 2:56 gears will never really give you a good launch althgough you should be able to go 140 mph if the car is up to it. Mine came with 3:08's and that was ok...but not as much fun as the 3:42's in it now. If you are going to plan on changing the gears, be careful. You might have to change the carrier as well. There are apparently 2 different carriers for the GM 10 bolt that is in your car now. You might want to research that a bit.

That block should also be a 1 piece real main seal block. I would inquire about that. The 327 crank is for a 2 piece rear seal. Why is he selling it?. It sounds kinda cheap. I paid a grand Can$ for an 89 zzz 350 short block that was still really fresh and that I thought was a smokin deal. No cam or heads. How do you know it needs valve seals? Buddy said so? Good chance it might need guides as well. The more I think about it, the less I like the sound of it. Just my opinion. I'm not a pro, but have been around.

One more thing stoney...if you car is a t-top and you replace the stock 305 lump that it came with, I strongly recommend a set of subframe connectors.
When we repainted my car last year, I had a small crack issue at the quarter panel to roof seam area. And that was with the stock soggy 305.
