Need air hose help

Ok so I have the compressor on the way but am a bit confused about air ine sizes. The outlet is 1/2" so not sure if I need to run all 1/2" hose or should I drop down to a 3/8". Also, is it normal for the 3/8" to have 1/4" NPT fittings?

Sorry for the questions but this is not something I am familiar with.

Then get the larger diameter hose, but expect some water to make it through the tool you are using no matter what you do.
