what make you most unhappy with your corrent cam?

chevrolet327 07-12-2009 09:02 PM

the power is like a good 305 with a nice sound this is not normal for 350 with 10.5 to 1 ratio and vortec head

comp web sight suggest that you would use a 2200 stall converter with that cam. I would think that you would have a lot more power that you say you do. Did you install it straight up. (stock timing marks). You might want to double check your cam timing. Those cams run pretty well at 4 degrees advanced if I remember right. Maybe some one else will remember for sure.

i have timed straight up i think the four degrees was grind in it

With the 40 inch tires it makes those 4.10s seem like 2.87s, to make it run like 4.10s with a stock tire you would need 5.86s

I also will agree it needs a bigger stahl probably around a 4000 stahl would be about right. I also agree on needing more gears. I also mudd bogg and I have 35 inch tires but I run a dana 300 transfer case behind a turbo 350 and I have 410 gears you definatley need something in the low to mid 5's to make them turn

with 10.5:1 compression you can't go to a smaller cam, so you need to stall and gear it up. 4.10's with those monster tires really isn't much gear at all though.

do i need to advance the cam of 4 degree

chevrolet327 07-13-2009 09:54 AM

and the truck was always run on 4 low gear it never goes on the road do you think my gear is ok.if not did somebody know if i can find 5.86 gear that fit my current carrier .

Advancing the cam will pick up on the bottom, but will also increase cylinder pressure. Depending on fuel used, this could move the motor into detonation.

no you will need to get a different carrier. the carrier you have is probably stock and you will need something better. the stock carrier will probably on handle gears up to 456 If I was you I would run a full spool. Here are a couple of numbers you can call to check on the gears Randy's Ring and Pinion 1 877 349 1369 and west coast Differentials 1 800 446 0950.... They may also have full spools but I don't know

the gas is not problem im running 100 octane aviation gas
