Need cam recommendation after gear ratio upgrade

My 86 c10 is currently getting a gear upgrade to 3:73 with a 700r4. Was wondering if could go bigger cam in my 305 and if so to wht. Currenly has a small performer cam in it and it pulls great with 342 gears. Gonna take advantage of my overdrive tranny so decided to go 3 73 and wanted a little more lope to go along with my tire peeling.Truck is a weekender only.

3.42 up to 3.73 is not much of a gain. You won;t even notice it.

Waste of time and money. If you want to cam up a 305 it will raise the usable rpm range up quite a bit. Needs much more rear gear.

A low compression 305 is very easy to over cam. The bottom end gets real sluggish. wants compression, gears and a high stall.

camming up a motor = speeding up the motor. wants gears.

consider this; The higher the rear gears, the more the taming effect the over drive has. a .7 OD really tames a 4.56 gear down.

Now your OD gear is actually doing something for you.

A 4.56 w a cammed 305 is just getting with the program. "now you're cookin' with gas"

Let the litle motor rev. 305's are a lot of fun and suprising performers when done right.

A low cr 305 is a great motor to supercharge. Makes a little motor into a big motor when you rug it.

3.42 to 3.73 "where's the beef"

What is the compression ratio of your lil 305?
What is the trucks rear tire diameter. (Measured)?
