need a glove box lock and latch

Hi Guys, I am in need of a working glove box latch for 37 Chevy car. I don't know if they made one without the lock. With a lock or with out a lock will work but has to keep the glove box door closed. Any help will be appriciated. Feel free to contact me via e-mail at *****************. Thanks, Jack

You need to post your request in the classified section. These types of things are not allowed in the tech forums.

There are several vendors that sale repo latches. Try chevs of the 40s or I and I repros. As for getting scolded for asking where to find and buy specific parts, you guys that monitor this site need to lighten up a bit. I dont think he was asking for someone to sell him one, just where to buy the part to help finish his project. Another nameless hot rod site has ruined its reputation among rodders for being scolded about trivial things IMHO.

First of all, this post was reported to me by another member of the site, who knew this post was made in the wrong area. No one was being "scolded". I know he was just asking for help, and is a newcomer. From the board guidelines: "Don't post ads for cars or parts, or help wanted ads. Classified ads are forbidden on the bulletin board. Use our classifieds section. For more information, please review our Classifieds Guidelines." What he was asking for is a part, and his request is accomplished in the classified section of this site, not in the tech forums. If I was scolding him, I would have deleted his post, banned him from the site, and chewed him out. I didn't do any of those things, just told him to post in the classified section. I also checked all the sources I have to see if I could find the latch for him. None of my normal sources had them either.

The moderators here are given the list of rules set up by the administrator of this site and entrusted to keep order here to distinguish this site from the other sites where the members act like idiots and say and do whatever they want. If you don't like the level of moderation here, by all means go somewhere else. You can consider yourself scolded.

No apology is necessary, and don't worry about it, it's not a big deal, no matter what spacytracy thinks.

Welcome to the site, by the way.

There is another section of the Board Guidelines which states:

"Don't post your email address on the board in an effort to encourage technical conversations by email."

That doesn't seem too hard to understand... It wasn't a big deal, just an oversight by the OP.

Wow, I guess I am the one to get scolded here. As for the part, I will do some searching for a vendor. I know I have seen them for sale somewhere.

Exactly. The reason (partly) is to keep good info available to many who read here. Sending good technical info by PM or E Mail only benefits the person who recieves it. If it is posted in the body of the main forum it benefits anyone needing the info that comes across it from then on. Just thought it was worth the mention.
Seems it is also in the guidelines to clarify the purpose.

eBay has endless pages of locks, different years, perhaps you can find one there, here's an example:

So.........how's it going trying to find the latch the OP was looking for? I didn't find anything either.

Antique Chev lists the glove-box ... which probably doesn't include the latch ... but perhaps a phone call to them might get you started in the right direction?

They, again, may be able to give you a lead.
