Ok guys, I ran the idea by Jon of making a list of common V8 firing orders, distributor rotor rotation, and maybe cylinder orders (Ford=1,2,3,4 passenger side 5,6,7,8 driver side) etc.. Problem is working 50 hours a week and three kids my time is limited. Is there anyone out there that would like to help do this and submit to Jon for the Knowledge Base engine section. If interested please let me know, we can e-mail information if needed and 4-jaw has offered assistance if needed but like me he is strapped for time also. I'm hoping there's someone out there with a little more time on their hands, if there is let me know. Thanks, Don.

Not too much Ted, basically I was thinking maybe a list with firing orders for the big three (gm,ford, mopar) including older buick, olds, etc.. Also cylinder orders like I posted for ford so you know where cyl. number 6 is if needed on any engine. Also whether or not the distributor rotors spin clockwise or counterclockwise. The main thing is having enough time to sit down, right everything out, and then mail it to Jon. If you are interested you can e-mail me at dmorris1200@hotmail.com (put hotrodders.com in the subject so I'll open it) and if there's any info you might need if you don't know a certain engine 4-jaw has alldata and has offered to help. I just thought it would make a nice project for the knowledge base section. Thanks for responding, Don.

If we can come up with a list of engines we need to cover than I can start hunting down all the items on the list, can we get some suggestions from the others on the board? We want as complete a list as possible, does someone have a complete list of every CID motor ever produced? A friend had one on a poster in his shop, he's since moved away. This would be invaluable as a starting point.

I know we have the ford V8's except 351 and 5.0HO are 15426378,counterclockwise rotor rotation, 1,2,3,4 cylinders pass. side 5,6,7,8 cyl. driver side. 351 windsors and 5.0HO are 13726548, rotation and cylinder configuration the same. Don't know about flatheads and not sure of firing order for 4.6 and 5.4 engines off the top of my head. Chevy V8's 18436572, clockwise rotor rotation, 1,3,5,7 driver side 2,4,6,8 pass. side. Need to know pontiac, buick, olds, all mopars and anything else we can throw in the mix. If any of you have the time and want to commit to writing this out as we collect info please post to let us know (could be one of you that posted already or someone else). I just don't have enough time available but will try and help out if someone else runs the show.

Seems too me as often as I have needed engine fireing orders..my collection of Motors manuals has done the job. Anyone building engines without some sort of manual even as a reference is looking for trouble. If you are desperate go to local libraries for the information.

Who said anything about building engines there chief. Let me guess, you never heard of the guy that decided to do a quick tune-up on his car and just figured he'd swap the wires only to finish and realize he crossed one somewhere? Maybe we're not as perfect as you but I've worked in a few garages and seen some of the best cross a wire or two. Now at work we just go right to the computer and pull up the service manual for that car, but the average do it yourselfer doesn't have alldata on his computer, should we tell him to go f himself? Sorry pal that information is top secret, unless your an engine builder and have all your own manuals we can't tell you that. Buy the way, isn't the whole point of the internet to provide people with all types of information so they don't have to go to the library? Which by the way isn't open at 11:30 at night which is usually when I find myself stuck in my garage with a question. Gee maybe I should get rid of my cellphone too, after all if I were smart enough I wouldn't need it for emergencies. Now repeat afetr me... modern technology is satan, modern technology is satan,...

Hey DMorris, When you get this finished I plan to post a copy in my garage. Not that I have ever crossed plug wires or thought that a roter turned cc when it actually turned c.

Ok, the rotor rotation may be a bit much but I have seen guys on this sight try and say that #1 cyl. on a Ford is on the driver side here link
And going back through old posts firing order questions are not that uncommon, but of course not as popular as the old how much hp can my sbc make. [ October 31, 2002: Message edited by: dmorris1200 ]</p> |

True Fax: I worked on my Olds when I first got it. Thinking it was a plain GM, yanked the wires and re-did it. It didn't run for two weeks until I found out about the opposite rotation of the rotor button!
