In need of help

I had just aquired a olds engine that is supposed to be out of a earlier 70's delta.Im used to chevy engines and some pontiacs,Ihad measured the intake width and compared it to the 350 that is in my cutlass now.It is wider so I have to think that it may be a 455.If there is anybody who can help me verify by casting numbers etc I would be very gratefull. Thanks chris

What is the casting number located on the block between the waterpump and the front of the intake(to the drivers side of the oil fill tube). 396021F is a 455. Also, on the head next to the #1 and #8 sparkplug will be a cast letter(A-B-C-D, etc), this will help narrow down what year the motor may be. If there is a number instead of a letter, the engine is a smallblock Olds(260-403)
