need help with a 63 C10 SWB

I'm getting ready to buy a 63 chevy C10 SWB. This truck leaks, smokes a bit, is real bouncy, the springs have been cut to lower it, breaks are bad, and back fired a few times when I test drove it. It has a 350 w/ an 350 turbo auto trans..A blast to drive. I'm pretty sure that all this can be fixed, right? First off I would like to upgrade the breaks and suspension. Where do I find parts for this. Some one told me I should get a 69 camaro sub frame. Where can I find such a part? Or is there another way? please give all options for these upgrade. The paint on it looks to be the original baby blue with white on the cab. What I'm going for is a ratrod look. So I would like to prime it black with maybe some pinstriping. How can I accomplish this look. What primer should I use? The stuff in a can? Also where can I find seat belts, and an at least 45" long auto stick shift? Thanks

you didn't say how much??

what did the owner want for it? Should make a great project...have fun!! The brakes are no big deal but the back firing is your biggest trouble...might just be timing is off....

He wants around 3000 for it. I think I'm going to pick it up this weekend.

Sounds a bit steep to me for rough supsension, bad brakes and a backfiring engine. Do you have any pics?

These old trucks have a very cool torsion bar front suspension that can be lowered (softeneed) by just turning the adjusters. It probably has a coil rear with those long contol arms. also a good setup and basically what Winston cup (I refuse to call them Nextel) cars use. The backfireing could be anything from bad plug wires to a bad camshaft or broken valve springs, both typical on a small block chevy.
Also inspect the door checks as the ones on these trucks were poorly designed and almost all of them have bondo in the door where it hit the fender when the door came open too far. Is the tailgate missing? Plan on spending some coin to find another one. And while you may be tempted to just run without one, doing so is an unsecured load ticket in many states and also the bedsides will eventually weaken without a tailgate holding them secure.

Rear suspension

Hello-

Does this have the trailing arm rear suspension oe leave springs?

I had a 61 and pulled the coil springs and added air bags and you can install them pretty easy, made up some brackets for the top at the frame and the bottom bolted to the trailing arm in the stock location. the hardest part is dealing with all the rusted bolts underneath the ones that run through the trailing arms are bear but 20 gallons of wd40 did the trick, I still have the springs and spring cups if you need em let me know you can have em cheap.....real cheap, sold the truck and they are just takinmg up space in my garage and collecting spider webs........good luck
