is ur paint metalic?
I know with single stage u can cut and rub matalic,
but with base and clear ur not supposed to sand metalic.
U pose a good question but I honestly would not clear
over single stage. As it allready has uv protection. But then
ur want a pearl. I would go with a base coat/ top coat if ur
going to invest in clear n pearl. Make sure there compatible.
The best way to go about it is with let down panels, so u can
catalog ur mixtures of pearl and clear over pearl. This is really
handy when using Kandy so u don't get uneven coverage.
Unless u got money to piss away on paint . Hope this helps you .
At the very least ask a auto paint supplier about compatability
but I'm guessing u got ur eye on that shelf at autozone.
Cheap paints are exactly that... But with the right prep
I've seen rattle can jobs that turned out ... Well maybee not
but what's the worst that can happen sand it of again.
Or strip it somehow.

use a bc/cc with pearls, candies and metalics...its less work and looks much better theres no good reason to use a SS for a base...If its already been SS sand it back down with 600 and put the pearl in an intermix clear (clear base coat) then clear (two coats) it'll come out more uniform and look professional.depending on the kind of SS three days to a week should be enough cure time, if its an enamal longer...thats another reason we use bc/cc

I wait overnight to clear single stage urethane, (I don't know about enamel)
with metallics, you run the risk of the metallic mottleing if you rush it.
I've done that. It will disturb it and make it look uneven, sometimes
like stripes. I have gotten by with just 3 hours but overnight is much safer.
I don't scuff or sand either, no reason too within 24 hrs.
I have to say, urethane color with a clear coat is the strongest paint
I have ever used. I did my daily driver that way more than 3 yrs ago
and It still hasn't gotten the first chip. It's been unbelievable
