Need to get Engine Codes. Can I get to any easy without taking anything major apart? where is the easiest to look? pull the oil pan?
Engine casting number is on the back block drivers side, they will be different betrween 305 and 350 but there are many to choose from.millertime85 said:Its suppose to be a SB 350 in a 85 monte carlo.it looks identical like a stock 305.I just wanna make sure.suppose to be a 1985 350 block
You beat me too it, I just pulled MorTec into Excel did search and combine and dumped it to word, here it is for 350 blocks:millertime85 said:thanks.i got the block number and heres what pops up
3970010....302.....69....4...Z-28 Camaro
3970010....327.....69....2...Trucks and industrial
3970010....350...69-80...2 or 4
He says its a SB 350 bored .40 over-makes it a 357 w/ high compression 305 heads.he said it was a 85 block.so i cant check the heads cause they will come back as a 305.but at least i know its not the stock 305 block.but how can i make sure it deff. is a 350 w/o a doubt???
Yep I'd say so. Back in the 1980s and even yet today the low buck way to overcome the large chamber low compression SMOG heads was to put a pair (usually reworked) of small chamber 305 heads on. Not as effective as todays heads, but with the right porting and some standard 350 size valves would work quite well.millertime85 said:So with all that i have found, everything is pointing to it being a 350 would you say???ill just have to pull the oil pan to check if its a 2 or 4 bolt.
Well this is where the logic seems to break down a little.millertime85 said:this is also what he is claiming so its a 357c.i. w/ 305 heads has a unknown cam w/ a carb jetted to 1,000(dont know a lot about carbs so not sure if im saying that right) w/ a decent intake.stock 350 or 305 headers, stock not true dual exhaust, and stock air cleaner making around 425hp and unknown torque.
