I have some OLD chevy iron that I want some work done on. Small Block - 327 (I know I'd be better off working with a 350 or 400 block, but it's what I've got)

Does any one in the Raleigh North Carolina area know of a reliable, quality Machine shop they can recommend for some block, crank, head work?

I'm not really looking for a Speed shop as much as I'm looking for a Machine/Engine shop that has worked on and can appreciate the older iron.

Like many of us, as we age, we just need a little different handling.

I'm not from there, and I imagine someone who is will eventually come on with some recommendations, but here is some generalized advice....

Are you from the area? If so you know some of the old-timers who seem to know everybody, ask one of them...

If not -- go to some of the parts stores that cater mainly to shops (NAPA, or the local guy who has been there 40 years) -- go in when they aren't too busy, buy something cheap you need anyway, and ask one of them.

When you hear the same names 3 or 4 times that's a good bet.

Another way, if you know any racers (local type, not big time), ask them who their friends like...

lots of drag strips around there. my brother in law and mother in law, live in Dunn NC. (Dunn NC zip 28334) it's about a hr south of Raleigh nc. on I95 there is / was a 1/8th mi strip in Benson NC. and Benson NC. is on I95 south of Raleigh NC. the guys at or around the drag strips can give you some advice. don't apologize for building a 327 engine, build what you want not what someone else wants. look up machine shops in the yellow pages in your area and when your out see how busy they are. then ask around about the busy ones. good luck
