3970010 is a common 4" bore block, used to make 302(rarely, 1969), 327(1968-69) and 350 engines. Most are 350's, if after 1969 it is definately a 350.

www.mortec.com for casting number decoding, block date code will narrow it down.

Look at the block right in front of the passenger-side cylinder head. There should be a machined pad there (may be hidden by an accessory, like a/c pump or smog pump). There should be an alpha-numeric code there (if the block hasn't been decked). There should be a letter, four numbers, then three letters... X###XXX. Post that code here and we'll look it up for you, or you can go to NastyZ28.com or ChevyMania.com and look it up yourself.

The intake is an aluminum 4-bbl Q-jet used from roughly '78-'85. Means there's a decent chance the engine is a 350 from '78-'79 or so- but a lot of parts swapping could have happened in the mean time.

The date code and/or the VIN suffix could tie it down closer.
