Need help with Heater Hoses on A/C Unit

I have an Vintage Air A/C-Heater Unit that I am trying to hook up. I want to hook up the heater hoses to the unit under my dash. My question is this--does it matter how the heater hoses get connected to the two connections on the A/C/Heater unit? I have two connections on the unit where the heater hose slips over each one--obviously one is the inlet and the second is the return line---but I don't know if it matters where you connect the inlet or the return to the two lines. Any help would be appreciated.

George

If your unit has an upper and lower connection. the hot water from the motor (manifold connection.) goes in the upper.

Vintage air has a place to download instructions for your particular unit.
The hose routing is included in those instructions.

Take a look at the hose arrangement on another vehicle. I think the larger 3/4" hose is the suction or return to the water pump. The 5/8" smaller line is the pressure hose leaving the pump and supplies coolant to the core. I think this is right. If you use the small hose on the suction side of the pump it might cavitate or not pump efficently.
