need help/info building removable Interior seat insert

I'm needing to build a removable fiberglass seat insert for my '27 T Roadster and I am not quite sure how to go about doing it. I have experience working with fiberglass and such but I have never tackled a large buck/mold lay-up project such as this. I'm thinking to keep it simple but I also want a bit of design in it. Give me some idea's, anyone!!!

Is it a 'glass or steel body? If it's a glass body I would suggest wooding the outside panels and build your seat bottom riser right into it. The sweat equity is the same and my upholsterer likes it better.

If it's a steel body, ask your upholsterer what he wants for attaching panels.

Sorry, I guess I didn't really answer your question. go to your local florist and ask them where they get the green foam they use.

You can use corrigated card board to rough in the seats, trans tunnel, etc. Now build up the foam to the shape you want for the insert. You can sand the foam to get the smooth curves and corners your looking for. Once you've reached the desired shape, cover the foam with alum. foil. Next , mask off the body where you don't want the 'glass to stick to. Spray the foil down with Pam cooking spray. That will act as a parting agent. Build up 3 good layers of 'glass, wait for it to set up and sand it to the texture you want.

That's kind of a basic outline for what you want to do, but it works. I've used this procedure to build up transmission tunnels, '40 Ford dashes and speaker panels with good results.

Also check the posting for making a fan shroud at the top of this page.
