need help with new engine i installed

i just put a new zz383 in my vette cant figure out whats wrong. i cant get a steady idle it races for a minute then returns to idle and repeats the same over and over. i think it may be bad gas or possibly the distributor if u have any clues please help id really appreciate it im kinda at my whits end

Carburator needs work.....vacuum leak.......distributer....any number of things.

the distrb is the only

thing i didnt replace where would u look first

Do you have a Q~Jet on it?

If so, Pull the Secondary Pulloff Vacuum line off and plug it.

If you have a Vacuum Advance, Pull the line there and plug it.

Run it and see if the racing stops...If so let me know we'll go from there.

if you've got a q-jet on it, check to make sure the secondary blades are fully closed.
