Need help starting engine Pontiac engine

I've got a Pontiac 400 and I'm going with my stock gauges and I'm getting ready to try and start my engine for the first time and I'm getting a little confused with the wiring harness, I've got a Summit mini starter ( it only has one terminal) and I need know what wires go where to get this thing started. I've got the diagram from the Pontiac manual, but it's still confusing. Do I still us the stock pink wire going to the distributor? Any suggestions?

What dist are you using? HEI or points?

On the starter, the original purple wire goes to the "S" terminal. That is the one that sends current to the solonoid when you turn the key.

All you need for the HEI is a good 12v source that is switched on with the key. On the old starter solonoid, there was an "R" terminal that was used to send full voltage to the POINTS type dist. during cranking. That is NOT used with HEI. IF you had an old points type dist. do NOT use the power wire that used to feed the coil, it will NOT be a full 12v when running. All you need is a good 12v source to the HEI and you are good to go.

You will need the main battery cable to the starter solonoid PLUS any other "power wires" that are down there. You can usually tell by the size of the connector on the end. There may be one or two more wires that go with the battery wire.

The purple wire will go to the "start" terminal on the solonoid.
