Post need help with a tach

i bought my 83 s-10 with a 305 with alot of the stuff not hooked up, and i don't know how to hook up the tach. i heard it's through the distributor but i honestly don't know cuz it had no instructions. can anyone help me out?

if your s10 has a hei distributor look on the top and you will see a port that says tach. it will be right on top the drivers side of the cap. you must put your power wire from your tach to this terminal. second you have to find the ground wire for the tach and hook it to a good ground. third theirs a wire on your tach for a lite. when you turn on your headlights the tach will light up. find this wire from the tach for the light and connect it to the dark brown wire on your headlight switch. you can also take a test light and turn your lights on and off while checking what wire on your headlight switch works your marker lights. connect the light wire from tach to this.

that's why i hate buyin other peoples projects, they start to hook stuff up then throw out the instructions
