NEED HELP TODAY! PPG MetalPrep Residue
I'm in a bit of a time crunch and really need some help about metal prep residue before I shoot DPLF epoxy primer this afternoon. For two days I've been sanding on my Nove (bare metal). This morning I did a soap wash/rinse, dried everything, treated with PPG DX-579, rinsed very well, dried, then used DX-520 acid based conditioner, rinsed (did not wipe during rinsing), following instructions all the way.
Of course this all discolored the panels sugnificantly, I expected that. I air dried everything and now have a very fine powder residue over the entire project. Do I need to wipe this down with a dry or damp cloth before I shoot it? I'd really hate to have to wet it again, it takes forever to dry nooks and crannies, especially around braces and inside the doors! PPG instructions say it has to be coated the same day and I'm prepared to do it, but need to know about this powder. Thanks, Larry |

If you haven't touched it with your hands, you are good to go. If you have handled it, use wax & grease remover with a clean towel. Otherwise, if it's clean and dry, blow it off and shoot it! the residue is a corrosion resistant phosphate coating, and is good.
