Hey Guys,

I'm relatively new to the Transmission/Driveline area of our hobby. I have a Chevy S10 I'm doing for a customer... He wants a built with a Hot Rod theme... and as much as I have tried to talk him into doing a V8 Carb with a 700 trans he is extremely bent on keeping his V6 TBI which had a 4L60 in it.

Here's where it gets tricky.

The project started because the trans gave up the ghost... he happened to have about five 700r4's laying around. He brought me one and said this is wht he wants in the truck. HOWEVER, the connector running to the trans off the harness is for a 4L60 (12 prong. I think.) and the 700r4 is a 4 prong.

Is there a conversion kit that I can get to keep the harness, computer, etc. and use the 700r4 trans?

Hi Matt, and welcome to the HR forums!

The 700R4 and the 4L60 are identical and a direct swap, just the name was changed to protect the innocent! LOL

The 4L60E is the full electronic version of the 700R4/4L60 trans. Is that what you have now? Sounds like it.

Not sure on the particulars on what the computer will need on your conversion, but the 700R4/4L60 only needs ONE wire to operate the lockup. Very easy to do. You will also need to do some easy upgrades on either trans to make it work and last behind a V8. You can search the database on this forum and find many articles on the upgrades.

Hopefully the experts will join in when they get home from work.
