Red face need info on small block chevys

hey if anybody give me some info on the small block chevy I have 68 chevy impala with a 327 and i bought the motorbook how to build a small block an i have been tring to prime my lifters an make oil come out of all my pushrods. but every time use the drill an the oil pump priming tool oil only comes out of the #6 intake rocker and the rest of the oil comes out by the top of the priming tool also the intake is not on yet the thing that i notice in the book the small block that they use the distributor shaft hole is flush with the lifter holes an on my block the distributor shaft hole is even with the top of the mount surface for the intake. Why is my block different from this small block if distributor shaft hole was like the one in the book i think i could create pressure in the block an push oil out of all pushrods also the rockers are not tight will somebody please give a rookie some info.

What priming tool are you using? Is it the one with the milled bushing that slides down into the block and distributes oil up to the lifter bore or other style? Are you feeling resistance on the drill showing the pump is pumping oil? Do you have a gauge on the motor to see what pressure you have?
