Need to Know

Trying to figure out what the conglomeration of parts I have put together are on my truck. The back is a 32 Dodge sedan Home Brew helped me out with this but still stifled by the front I saw a 32 Chevy coupe which looked like it had the same firewall but I can't find the picture any more, the firewall is a 3 piece and it is bolted together and had a separate fuel tank under the cowl similar to a Ford but the tank was removable unlike the ford. I'll post a couple of picks and maybe someone can help me.

That cowl section is a 28-29 Ford Model A Fordor sedan. The Fordor and Town Sedans had the odd 3 piece firewall. The cowl section looks similar to a 30-31 Model A but is not. The gas tank under the cowl is a standard 28-29 A tank with an external cover over it to give it that totally different look. Note the hole in the center of the firewall where the Model A terminal box bolts up. The wiring from the dash hooks up inside this box and the coilspring wound ignition switch cable passes throiugh the box and goes to the distributor. The larger hole on the passenger side is an opening for the valve of an exhaust heater.
Now you know. By the way, I don't believe any make of car other than Ford had a cowl mounted gas tank. The 26-27 Model Ts and the 28-31 Model As had this feature.

Doors?

Thanks for the info but I have another question because the doors are Chevy the hole inner structure was wood within the doors not like a ford and the body lines seem to match up with the doors from the cowl, looked at a 28 fordor and it looks like the upper section of the firewall is rounded and mine isn't. I'll add another picture of the side.

The firewall is not a Chevy, Chevies had a an "X" shape stamped, you have a "V" shape.

I agree with pasadenahotrod that the firewall, top of the cowl and probably the windshield and visor are Model A.

If those doors are from a Chev (although I am not absolutely sure of that - they may be rear doors not front)than possibly the bottom portion of the Chev cowl has been grafted to the Model A cowl top to allow the continuation of the door beltline detail.

A close up of the section of the body detail line where it goes from the door and matches to the cowl may help. It looks like it goes downhill at that point.

Also a close up of the bottom of the A pillar where it meets with the cowl might give a little more info and confirm what the windshield and visor are.

What year do you think the doors are? Any idea what the doors that were used to fill the top were?

This body obviously was put together with a lot of different pieces (probably by a Ukrainian farmer - I know my dad/grandpa would have thought of something like this) that were lying around a town junk yard. Ingenuity at it's best.

Here is a not so good pic of a Model T sedan shortened to make a pickup cab. During WWII many cars were made into pickups as it was much easier to get gas ration coupons for work trucks than cars.

I wonder if the whole cab isn't a dodge.


Look at the top of the doors, the upper window opening has the same curve.
The belt reveal line at the cowl is almost identical and there appears to be a gas filler or some other protruberance at the top center.

The pic is of a 29, I couldn't find alot of doggy dodge pics. I would be looking at a 29 through 32 if there were more stuff out there.Someone may have hacked a Model A firewall in it.

Just a thought.

I've been looking at car nut pics for the last hour and I have to agree with powerrodsmike that it may be some sort of Chrysler product. The arch of the window definetely looks like a Chrysler not Chevy.

The visor doesn't match with the 29 pickup above but it does match with some of the pics of Chrysler/Dodge/Plmouth pics I was looking at.

Take a look at these pics of a 30 Plymouth pu from the car nut site.

I hate to admit it when I'm wrong.
Pasadenahotrod and Homebrew are right from the start, looking at more online images this morning it is plain to see that the cowl is model A, although it looks longer from the hood side to the door. ( that reason, and the curved top doors are why I doubted it was an A) Sorry guys, for jerking your chain.



My reference to the belt reveal line was wrong also as the details are model A . Initially I was looking at the section of body detail line that ran up and over the cowl in front of the windshield, and the Dodge has that but the A has that also.

The roofline is flat on that truck, which may again indicate that it was a cut down sedan, as most all the rooflines were sloped on factory trucks.

I found this pic of a 31 murray fordor town sedan on the mafca site. It has the curved top door and everything looks the same as far as visor and beltlines. But the cowl is different from Grapo's truck. The op's truck is, as Pasadena said, a 29 and the cowl looks like a 31, but it isn't. I include this pic because it has better views of the doors and beltlines.


Here is a pic of a 29 murray fordor sedan , again with the curved top doors.


From the pictures it seems like the Murray is the one with the curved tops, as briggs and ford have straight tops.

So at this point I would think that is a 28 29 Murray town sedan cut down into a pickup. It looks like the doors are Murray as well as the rear sheetmetal.( I looked in grapro's project journal.) I don't think there is anything other than Ford/Murray parts in there.

Hoping to redeem myself in my wrongness, I should know better than to look at pictures at midnight and try to compare details.

powerrodsmike - Mikey you have done it again. I didn't even think to go looking for Murray bodies in my searches. I just knew that the curved top of the door didn't match up with a Chevy and that some Chrysler products had that. What bothered me was the dip in the body reveal line across the cowl side. I found a good pic of a 29 fordor (although it is not a Murray) with that dip in the cowl reveal. Of coarse the fordor bodies didn't have the vertical A pillar reveal on their bodies. Good work!!

Looks like everyone was working hard, Checked out the pictures and found out its a 1929 Murray sedan body cut down. I'll add a picture of my firewall and one of the back and a link of the windows.
