Need to know max time between base coat applications.

I have an issue, I was told by a paint supply store that I would have enough paint for the base coat of the entire car by having 1 quart paint and 1 quart activator. Well I got one coat on but I still need 2 more coats. This is a problem because I painted the car on mid day saturday and I cant pourchase paint on the weekend due to the fact no local place is open. Is waiting 36 hours to apply another coat going to ruin my paint job? I've spent 3 months trying to get the prep right and I dont want to ruin it and have to restart. BTW this is only my second car I have painted and I'm using a dupont black with nason 2k urethane primer and hot hues semigloss clear from dupont.

Thanks for any input, I look forward to contributing as I grow in skill.

Dupont recomends recoating their Chromabase and Chromapremiere base within 24hrs. Check the tech sheet for the basecoat you are using on DuPont's website. I have done some major graphic jobs with DuPont that have stretched over a week long and never had any problems, I used DuPont 222S whenever I went past the recoat window.

It will be fine IMO, just give the paint a couple of hours to flash off well before applying your clear. Black is the worst color for holding solvents because of the carbon pigment, so when you apply more coats that original coat is going to suck up solvent and then it all needs to evaporate back out before your clear goes on. Give it some good flash time before you clear and it will be fine.
