Need major help!!

I have a 1980 mercury Capri that I am gutting and turning into a demo racer. The problem that I'm having aside from the fuel being gunked up is electrical. The previous owner decided to rip the ignition completely out and splice wires to have power and would turn car on my jumping the solenoid. But once I got it started I couldnt turn the engine off.. So I was wondering if anyone could maybe give me a idea of how to keep the wiring simple and get rid of everything but power to turn on and off the car. I just need to know if I can run a couple wires to a toggle switch for power to distributor and another for the starter to start the car. Any help would be really appreciated.. I'm completely lost on this part :/

If you have the traditional Ford solenoid on the fender well you can use a momentary on switch to power up the "S" terminal- that will spin the starter.

To get power to the ignition, use a toggle switch in line w/a jumper from battery power to the coil positive terminal. I'm not sure if you need to use a resistor in this circuit or not, it depends on the type of ignition system you have.

By far my favorite fox body also. Getting harder to find as time goes on, but I'd guess the title is lost, it's in need of extensive body work or some other such reason. I doubt any sane person would tear apart a perfectly good car (and future classic) for a demo car.

Personally, I'd start with something that a had a frame, though.
