Need some direction for my 46 Chevy Truck

I just picked up a new project and I'd like some suggestions from those who've already been there & done that.

This is going to be a custom project for my son & I. The cab has already been chopped and the frame has been z'd. We're planning on using the existing front suspension and steering. The steering box & column had already been removed by previous owner since they were planning on going with power steering. We will be running fenderless but will still have the hood and a custom 40'ish grill. This truck will be powered by a 305.

I have two different questions to throw out here. First off, what should I be looking for in steering boxes & columns that will fit in this?

Second, is that I'd like to swap the front drums out to disc brakes. I'd like to maybe use something from a 90's f-body since that's what's on the rear. I'm open to anything though. Is there an inexpensive kit out there or what should I plan to do?

Key point of all of this is that I'd like to keep the project inexpensive. Our plan is to drive this to shows and cruise-ins. So we're not looking to race or anything like that.
