Stall converters slip until the designed rpm is achieved. A 2500rpm stall converter will slip, but will pull until 2500rpm is met, then will transfer a 1 to 1 ratio (engine rpm is transmission shaft rpm) to the transmission.
A line lock, at least the one I am familiar with is a momentary contact button activated solenoid that locks only the front brakes of a car. The button is usually on the shifer. When a car stages at the start of a quarter mile the button is pushed and the front brakes lock preventing movement. At that point the driver applies power to "load up" the driveline. As the christmas tree decends to green the button is released and the accelerator stomped to the floor. Vince |
