need some help
i have a chevy 350 sb, mallory dist. msd coil.when i go to turn the car (its in a 78 olds.omega)on the starter grinds real bad with the fly wheel.if i dont turn the wire to the coil on it doesnt grind.the car will start and the starter does not stick and there are no other problems accept when trying to start the car.someone said the starter probably is not getting a full 9volts causing the bendix to come back before its suppose to causing the starter to grind.can someone help..

Sounds like you found your problem possibly, how is your battery, grounds and cables?

hows the timing? somebody had almost this same problem that your having. and somebody suggested unhooking the coil then cranking it, and if it cranked fine then the timing was WAY too far advanced and firing against the motor trying to spin it backwards, and it was causing the starter to grind. check to see if your timings ok.
