Need square sockets

Where do you find the square sockets to use on motors with square plugs??

njbloodline666 06-24-2006 07:27 PM

snap on, if you are talking about square pipe plugs... if they are female squares they are usually 1/4. 3/8 or 1/2 so you can use a regualr ratchet or extension. for male squares, if you cant use an adjustable wrench..check snap on

I don't trust using the extensions anymore since I just stripped one out on a motor. I was just going to get a set and be done with it. Maybe some more heat too. :)

S&K also makes them

square sockets

Just in case you haven't seen them before, they may appear different than you might expect- the ones I have aren't square but 8-sided stars. I'm only mentioning this in case you're not familiar with them, not trying to be an SA. Bill :)

What you have is TORX.

Here's what he is after (and they are nice to have);

torx are 6 sided, 8 sided ones are called double square, they even make a tripple square, (12 points) i had to change the ign switch on a vw passat once, i needed a tripple square driver, i have never even heard of it..stupid german engineering

I think Bill is talking about an 8 point socket which is a square and another square turned 45 degrees. These are female sockets and can be used on the square shoulder of threading taps, etc.

What Oldmo wants is a male plug socket used to take the plugs out of the side and front of the block.

Internal pipe plug socket

External pipe plug socket

Although an extension will work on certain occasion the pipe plug socket fits a little more closely than the extension. Also it is a good idea to heat up the plug with the blue wrench prior to removing it. They can be a real bear coming out at times especially if something like Indian Head was used on them.

Correct????

Correct. The word stars threw me off. The eight points I have found only from WRIGHT. They can be used on both four point and six point fasteners.

I see you are a SNAP-ON participant. SNAP-ON has these also?

Snap on also makes the double square sockest, in impact and chrome finish. I have a set, use it rarlely, but really appreciate having it when I need it. :)

square sockets

Thanks for the input and clarification. I bought a machinist's toolbox at a swapmeet many moons ago, and there were a bunch of 2-3" square tooling in different sizes, whenever I need an "outie", I stick these in the square sockets. Bill :)
