need your thoughts

I have just purchased a 74 vega, its tubbed, has narrowed 12 bolt, roll cage, and it set up for a small chevy.I have a two bolt 400sb laying around. Would I be better off having my block prepared to bracket race "4-bolt caps, etc."? or purchasing a dart block with the stuff already done to it. It will be a weekend strip toy for bracket racing. Not interested in being the fastest car there, more like consistant and reliable. Thanks for your thoughts. Joe

If you want consistancy, keep the 400, 2 bolt mains will be OK, put in an automatic, shift it at 5200 rpm and it will run good and the same all day long.

You should be able to make 450h.p. live in a 2bolt 400 block. If you are worried though, stud the mains with quality fasteners like ARP!!

What is a safe hp/rpm range for the 2-bolt 400 ,with the main stud kit."I am looking at the 12.5-1/ 415ci eagle kit" Is this doable in my 400 with the main kit? "this will power a vega 1/8 mile bracket car.Thnx. Joe

If you want consistancy and reliability, you will go with about 9 to 1 compression....12.5 is wwaaaaaayyy too high.
