needing some help

ok guys heres the deal, ive got an 85 gmc 4x4 with a 350 bolted up to a ch465. while out driving around it started sputtering and died as if out of gas when I got in the pedal rpms dropped even more until it died and wouldn't start again. Ive checked fuel supply and made sure the carb is getting fuel and cylinders are wet. not sure where to go next. Spark plugs are almost brand new and gapping is still good but they do look a little fouled out. Where should I go from here?

Check to see if you have any spark.

What ignition do you have? HEI? A motor need gas, air, and spark and it will run - as long as all mechanical is good. Is this a carb motor or injected?

If you are sure the engine did not flood out, I would suspect ignition. If you have a real weak spark, it may not be enough spark to fire under compression. Are you sure mechanics are good? Possible timing chain jump?

needing some help

If you have a HEI distributor in it pull the module and take it to Auto Zone to have it checked. With the yellow fire most likely its died. Here is an article on HEI distributors. It will explain how to test the HEI components. http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/w...EI_distributor
