neutral switch
need help. have a 86 olds with a turbo 400 trans and a bm mega shifter.the shifter was installed but never hooked up neutral safty switch, kinda lost on how to hook up and i need it for drag racing. Mods have been made key doesnt start car but has to be turned too the on position,then i turn switch on for power and push button to start. Can anyone help? also changing trans from 400 to 350 do i need different drive shaft and cross member. THANKS FOR ANY HELP

The tail sgaft on the 400 is longer then on the 350 so yes you will need to change drive shaft length. The neutral saftey switch is under the steering column on every chevy ive seen. Im not sure how to tell you to hook it up but i can tell you that the big fat purple wire is usually the main wire for the switch.

That post is correct. The neutral safety switch is lower on the column, kind of banana shaped, on the stock car. The after market switch is a micro switch that should come with the shifter. It will line up with park and neutral, in those positions it will allow current to go to the starter.

micro switch is on shifter but what doe i wire it to,thats were iam lost?Thanks for the responses so far.

The wire that goes from your start button to the starter solenoid should go through the neutral safety switch.

the fellows are missing the fact you have a B&M shifter now. NHRA rules require a working neutral switch for the starter.
As the fellows mention the OEM location for neutral switch is on the column if a column shifter. Since you use a remote / different start button for starting, you will need to wire that switch through the neutral switch on the shifter. As for mounting the neutral switch on the B&M shifter ..... phootos would help. Does B&M have a pdf file on instructions at their web site??? I do not know. good luck

mega shifter
most popular shifter and it doesnt come with the micro switch.LOOKED high and low for pics and know luck,will try and call them direct tommorow. Sir crosley thanks for your help,i think i have it figured out.Can be wiried to starter button.MAYBE nhra rules cant live with em cant live with out them
