Never had a choice before.

On my 454 C-3 I'm converting to a serpentine setup and what I have at the moment is an oil cooler and a transmission cooler mounted in front of the radiator.

I have found a 17" 3400 cfm (pusher or puller) fan that will replace the mechanical fan.

My question is what if I moved the coolers to the inside of the radiator and mounted the fan as a pusher? (not room for fan out there also)
OR do I leave as is and mount the electrical fan as a puller on the inside of radiator.

I have always been under the impression, pushing was best but I really don't have a clue.

How would you do it?

Leave the coolers mounted in front of the radiator and mount the fan on the other side. Make sure you have a good shroud too. If the fan has the cfms stated you should not have any problems with overheating.

Fan should work either way..the critical piece is the shrouding and also look at how air is directed to the radiator for a good airflow..Shrouding can be easily fabricated from aluminum flashing material that can be found at the local building supply. use pop rivets or the body panel glue to assemble the shroud. Most aftermarket fans come with a generic kind of shroud/mount that can be incorporated.

Thank you guys, we will make a puller, now that I went to a short water pump and eliminating the clutch fan have more room in there then I have ever seen on a car and the original shroud is staying, so no problem there.
Since I put on the oil cooler and went to 0w30 mobil-1, cooling has never been an issue with this car, where before after I built the engine, if ran on expressway for an hour, when you hit a town, it never over heated but temp would climb 20-30 degrees, for first 15 minutes in city driving and then go back to normal.

Good advice above Barry. Puller is better and a good shroud is priceless Good luck.
