new 383 maiden voyage..tuning help?

Made it down the road for the first time in 6 yrs Saturday! My first 383 sbc build seems good so far. It runs nice and cool at about 35mph or higher, but wants to heat right up at a stop sign. The 16" Derale fan is not enough. Has anyone tried the Chevy HHR fan set up yet? I hear its great and cheap? Also, does anyone out there have any baseline tips for me to make sure Im not to lean/rich? I have a lunati "268" cam with trick flow heads and 10.5 -1 compression. My Holley 700 has 72/78 jets with a 4.5 pv. I set the initial timing at 10 and the full advance is 35.

Do you have a vacuum advance hooked to manifold vacuum it will help cool it down.. Try more timing approx 3 degrees.

sdluck,
I have a Mallory unilite dizzy that has a fixed mechanical advance. Its all in by 3000, but if I advance by 3 deg, the initial will be about 13. You think thats ok?
