Good new article from Edmunds.com. Discusses the history of Challengers/Barracudas, and ties it in to the new Challenger concept.

Of all the classic muscle cars, none have become more collectible or more valuable than the Dodge Challengers and Plymouth Barracudas produced during the 1970 and 1971 model years. That's despite the fact that these twins were hardly innovative in their specification nor particularly popular in sales. But they were the quintessential muscle cars: handsome and brazen in their styling and overstuffed with iconic features and, yes, gimmicks. But most of all their reputation was part and parcel of the V8 engines under their hoods: 340, 340 Six-Pack, 383 Magnum, 440 Magnum, 440 Six-Pack and, most of all, the legendary 426 Hemi.

I dont buy the value. I think they are nice, and should be higher value than some others. I do think that Barret-Jackson is responsible for over inflating the value of used cars. If you look at the NADA gudies you can see some are worth upto 200k while others have a high retail between 30-70k.. that is alittle more sane than Millions.

Before Ebay came along the disney collectable market was high too. but ebay has destroyed it. As it turns out many items were not as rare as belleived and many collectors cleaned up. The hot wheel market did the same thing. The author of the first hotwheel collector guide, was accused of inflating prices in his book to get the best possible value on his collection. however mattel has tried to boost the market by making more exclusives. I cant help but think there is a crash heading towards us with cars too. as a collector of things myself, you must always buy collectables for the enjoyment and not as a replacment for your kids college fund, or your retirement fund. its sad to think these beauties are sitting around and not being driven because of false value attached to them.
