Doing a rebuild on a 350, just got the engine back with a rebuild kit. Do I need to use a plastigauge when I put those bearings back in. No work on the crank. Have been told not to worry with it. I have also heard, "might as well do it."

Opinions appreciated......

thanks

If you're just replacing the bearings then you should still check clearances. What happens if you put everything together without checking and you get one that ends up a little too tight? Quick, simple insurance. Spend a little time now or spend a lot of time (and money) later.

Isn't the machine work to take a crank 10/10 something like $65? Plastigauge doesn't do much good on an egg-shaped journal. I don't put a crank back in unless its been checked and trued up if necessary. It could easily be my fault, but I've had some bearings spin when I just replace them, but I've never had a bearing spin on a properly remaned crank.
