new consoles old cars

Hi Everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone knew a trick to fit new consoles into a old cars, what I mean is the fittment to the floor from the bottom of the console.is it just sheet metal work or is it done under the carpet maybe with foam or something to that effect?

Thanks

Look into Nut-serts, (or other similar products) to secure a console to the floor. The product(s) work by drilling holes as needed, then inserting the bolt receiver, securing it with a rivet insertion-type tool.
Your console can be of your choice; wood, fiberglass, or steel, contoured to fit your floor, with tabs for your attaching bolts.

Thanks for the reply and I am going to look for them, but I was actually talking about filling the space from the bottom of the console to the floor.

Do you have any pictures of the bottom of the console and where you want to put it? It would really help to be able to see what you're trying to do.

mounting brackets

some factory consoles have metal brackets attached to the floor. the console is secured to those brackets. you could modify those to fit your floor. then slip the console over it. trim the plastic to fit your floor contour. .

That's a good point, but I think he's asking how to add something to the bottom of the console to make it fit the floor.

that's what it sounds to me.... depending on console shape. could ither trim the console to fit, or do some fiberglass work to make it fit.. ither is going to cause the console to to need refinished..
nother way to do it, is find a simmilar vehicle to the 1 the console was removed from, and cut out the trans tunnel, and work it into the vehicle your putting it into

I made some cardboard templates and then built the pieces out of 16 ga steel and welded them to the trans hump they fit on the inside of the console and that filled the space once the carpet covers it you will never know. Thanks for all your replys guys.

Good solution. You could also have covered the steel with vinyl covered panels glued in place. They could have been the same color as the original console, or a contrasting color.
