NO! I don not give away my hard earned!!

Street beggars are scam artiest and shouldn't be placated by giving up your cash to. There are Charity's to give money to so if you want ot help find one and support it. Don't give your cash to street people!!

I don't give money to beggers, the Will work for food thing is a sham.Donate to a charity or a shelter.I know I get on my rants about welfare and food stamps, but these guys don't get those,no address. Most of them probably are responsible for the situation they are in,but.....One year on Thanksgiving, instead of eating dinner with the family, our church had prepared meals for the homeless and the elderly ,who had homes but no family to share with.We loaded the van and drove around downtown.Im telling you now,no matter how hard you may think you are,the looks on those faces and them actually saying Thank You,Sir.To watch someone drop everything, sit down right there on the curb and eat like they never tasted food, now that will humble any man.But I still wont throw money to them,if I knew for a fact they would get food, yeah maybe I would, but they will take that change, along with all the other change they bummed that day and get a bottle of Wild Irish Rose.

Winter get pretty cold in Syracuse. We can get up to 196" of snow per year. We have homeless and bums. They have openings at the Rescue Mission, Salvation Army , an a few Homeless shelters. You'll see them walking around in a snowstorm. The Police have to escort them to a shelter. They go in, eat, and leave. They don't want to be in the shelter.

Something my Grandmother said, one time, left a lasting impact.

"Why help anyone that won't help themself?"

I give a little, but not in America.

There is this 40-something year old woman who hangs out in a Fairfax, VA shopping center who begs. I've seen her there a lot. She always has the same sign:

"Homeless. Have Car Payments"

She's usually reading a book. There's something wrong with that! This *is* America, and I think it was Sam Kennison the comedian who said something like "If you can't make it here, where in the [explicit deleted] are you going to make it?"

But, I'm not a total cold-heart...

In other countries, such as any of the former soviet republics, beggars are a little different. They are usually very old - 70+ years and have nobody to help take care of them, especially the government. Some of them have been crippled or lost a limb from war or some accident, maybe blind, but whatever, they have to resort to asking for money on the street so they can have some good food or else go dumpster diving in hopes of finding something, but there is very little waste of food in most countries in the world. America could probably feed 1/2 the starving people in the world with just the food that is thrown out every day! I drift, anyway, these people asking for money are not obnoxious about it, they simply sit with their hand out. Maybe they will get enough to buy some bread and a chicken bone to make some soup. One day, my wife and I went to the cemetery. I saw more than one little old russian lady sitting by the grave of her late husband, just waiting to die and get it over with. Sad. My wife and I always gave a little money, not much, about 10 cents but that's how much a chicken leg goes for.

Another time, we were walking home from the bazaar and there was a young lady in her 20's. She was begging too, one leg was amputated at the knee. She just stared, but it wasn't a blank stare, it was a pissed-off stare. She looked like if she could find any other way to help herself, she would but she had no other option except maybe suicide, she had no pride.

I guess the moral to my story is there are some people who genuinely need a little help. The rest, well, they need to speak to George Carlin!
