New England Swap Meets

I want to go to a swap meet thats not too far away form me sometime soon, mostly looking for old stuff from the 50s and early to mid 60s. Im in south eastern CT. Tachs, maybe someold wheels and tires, intakes, heads, shifters, im looking into building a Gasser-esque '55 or '56 Ford (preferably '56). It will be a daily driven car, so no straight axle front end but it will be up relatively high with '50s and '60s speed equiptment and QUICK AS HELL! Almost as quick as loud! Any suggestions?

In southern New England, most of the older swaps don't see a lot of the goodies you are after unless it's a higher priced dealer that also sells at the big national swaps. So, finding bargains is pretty rare, as any underpriced stuff gets grabbed quick for resale on the internet or by the dealers. The good old days are gone. You've got to wade through tons of beat up race car parts, 20 year old parts, quads & 4x4 junk. Amherst is supposed to have old stuff, but you need to get there before 6am and it's closing down at noon. It's once a month.

Bargain News had a "Special Interest" or "collector" paper that listed all the swaps, shows & cruises. It also has old cars & parts classifieds in it. Look for it in convience stores that sell the Bargain News.

Also, if you get lucky to find a parts car at a junkyard around here, don't assume it will be there for long. Most all the great old yards are being scrapped out lately, and there's not many places for the old stuff anymore.

Yea, good luck finding stuff with all of the "junker" laws now.

my town is getting on a friend of mine about "junk cars" and they are his daily drivers. We can't even thin about getting a parts car unless you keep it in an enclosed garage.

I have been to the one at lake compounce. Pretty much sucked as well as the one at the big E in the winter. You might find something at carlisle but its a big trip from eastern CT maybe 5 hours. There is one at Englishtown at the track in October I remember a few years ago there was a lot of stuff there. But I havent been in a few years. I think I will go there this year.
