New-Fangled Compression Tester

I'm developing a new type of compression tester that can show and print compression curves, as well as analyze and compare compression strokes from different cylinders.

The tester can also interface with some software that I am writing so that it can be further analyzed.

I've included images below. I'm not sure how much time I should commit to this project, or if it's even worth completing. Can you guys give some input, ideas etc? It would help me to shelve or continue this device.

The patent process has been started.

Comparing strokes from two cylinders - Note the ramp-up indicating possible bad rings on the slower stroke.

re: New-Fangled Compression Tester

I think it's pretty cool, you just need to develop a market for it. Make people think they need it. Get them to use it on the Powerblock and have Summit sell them and you'll be a millionare!

Seriously, maybe drag guys could use it to keep track of the engine condition during the season or something. If you could interpret the results to help identify problems, that would be good too.

re: New-Fangled Compression Tester

I like the concept, but I see two big stumbling blocks you may consider.

1. As Arrowhead alluded to already, you will have to heavily push it to the target market. This day and age people are getting more "in tune" with their spending habits, and therefore more view this as a "new Gee-Whiz gizmo" than the true tuning/diagnostic aid which it could well be.

2.

Unless you find a more mainstream software to interface with that is currently available, people may hesitate to buy it.

Just advice, and I wish you the best of luck with it.

In a while, Chet.

Stephen, I can't seem to "super-size" those attachments to get a better view. Can you try inserting them directly? (Sorry to the guys on dial-up...)

Compression Tester

My FIRST question is where did you find a SIX cylinder 400 Chevy ?

The second is are those tests relative to each cylinder or actual compression readings, most of the eighties and nineties "smart computerized testers" used a compression graph that was similar but only tested the cylinders relative to each other, they would flag a low cylinder by measuring starter current resistance. Nice graphs but relatively useless in the real world, I sold a ton of them, I should be ashamed

re: New-Fangled Compression Tester

I can run any kind of vacuum to 5000 lb pressure test, and any 2 at the same time.

I am sorry I can not figure out how to enlargen them, and keep them readable.

Just pop onto my website to see them. I have actual tests shown on my services page, that I have emailed off to my customers.

Stephen

That is six compression strokes on one cylinder. I only showed two cylinders for comparison.

I knew that someone had to be doing this! Are you marketing your system, or just using it in your shop? Did you write your own software?

My system is Snap-on's Snap-Link software. It is designed to be used with a MT2500 scanner, and Vantage. It uses transducers, of which I have all 3, for pressure readings.

I see. I'll check that out. Thank you.
