New Guy, New Project...Your comments?

Hello Gearheads;

I have been reading for 3 years and I like the open way things are discussed by REAL Gearheads.
Now it is my turn to add to the site with my project.

I went to my first Drag Race as a Kid in 1968 and have had the fever since then working on my buddy's projects and attending most national events and car shows BUT I have never had a Project Car of my own! (well none that I would want to talk about!!

I am finally in the position of having a project car and am in the planning phases. The car is in storage now and I want to commence this winter on making it a car that is NOT a show car. I wanta car that while I do not plan to Impress, I do want the respect of car guys when I show up in it.

It was running when put in storage by the previous owner and it is NOT an Arizona car, having lived through several northern winters and has some rust that will need repair but is NOT a basket case!
It is faded and worn and is kind of rough but it is a body style that I like and want to cruise in and do a "Little" tire smoking with!
It is a '68 Impala with 327 4bbl, TH350 and 12 bolt.
I want to do a respectable job but a "Body-off" is OUT of the question (single garage, time, budget, etc.) and therefore, I am seeking YOUR opinions, Tips, suggestions, sources and comments.

I in return will share my opinions, discoveries, plans, progress (w/photos) and undoubtedly some Laughs, as I make my way through this adventure.
Like I said it is to be a cruiser that will trip the 1/4 mile clocks on occasion, but is not an all out restoration.

The first Issue I have is How to clean Up the car's underside (Power wash, sand blasting, paint all in chassis black, POR 15, what??) to make it presentable so I can progress with the evaluation and upgrades that I want to perfom on the suspension and driveline and hit the street.
There are some pics I have attached to show your the underside condition and to see what you guys have faced and have the best results with while keeping the body on the car.

Follow along on this journey as we will see how it goes now that the project I am working on is MY Own!
