I keep telling you I'm not as pretty as you are Alan. We don't need to scare anybody off with my picture.

Okay - you asked for it...
This was taken last November, and I've since shaved off the beard. ![]() Yes, I'm wearing a kilt. Let the questions begin, but I warn you - I'm used to questions, and I have answers most of you won't want to hear...

I'm quite proud of it, man. The color is my Clan Tartan (Clan Lindsay) and it's a major part of my family heritage. It's also the ultimate ice breaker at a party - I mean could you stand next to somebody wearing a kilt and not say something? And the women dig it...! I decided to post the kilt picture mainly because we're leaving for the big Highland Games and Scottish Clan Gathering down in Pleasanton, California in a couple of hours, and all things Scottish have been on my mind for the last week. There'll be close to 60,000 men in kilts there, and the wife is ticked off that her leaf blower is broken. Come Monday morning, she's gonna have sore knees from dropping things all weekend long... Whitney, This semester we're going to focus on basic techniques like sewing, repairing seat frames (replacing springs, repairing damaged frames, and building up new foam,) laying out patterns, using old foam and upholstery to make patterns for the new stuff, etc... Next semester we'll get into things like tuck & roll, diamond tufting, roll pleating, and such. We'll also be doing a headliner and a convertible top. I don't have a convertible, so the instructor is cool with me bringing in the half-top from my boat as a substitute. According to the instructor, he's going to teach us how to do newer cars, but we just won't have time to do a complete interior in one semester - not with having class only once a week. He told us that if we want to do a complete interior, we'd have to keep taking classes and pick up where we left off in the previous semester. It's kind of a racket the school has going, but it's still cheaper than having it done, and this is all fun to me, so no big deal. Last edited by Dusty82; 08-31-2007 at 07:51 AM. |

Where I come from the heritage is mostly German, and the guys wear Lederhosen which consists of suede leather shorts held up by brightly colored suspenders, knee socks, a white shirt and a Tyrolean hat with a feather in it. Of course I wouldn't be caught dead in that outfit either. JUST KIDDING!! I think it's great that you embrace your heritage. I hope you have a great time at your clan gathering. Have some Haggis for me. I know there can't possibly be any drinking going on at this celebration.

Oh lots of drinking, which I never figured out. Everyone's Scottish, so how is it anyone buys anything to drink? Scotsmen are so cheap it isn't funny. Copper wire was invented by 2 Scotsmen arguing over a penny!
There'll be too much whisky, and too much Guinness (which is an Irish beer, but who cares?) consumed, but hey... |

Have you ever heard the story of how Scotch tape got it's name? This is a true story. A long time ago, when 3-M was just a fledgling company, some local auto painters in Minnesota called up 3-M and asked for a special masking tape that was 1 1/2" wide with only 1/4" of adhesive on each edge so that it would be easier to remove after painting. It worked so well that they called 3-M and asked for "more of that Scotch tape". That's where the name came from.
