Iron man Joe asked me to make a home made car.I said OK and started on it today.Have to build it in-between the 57 Chevy build. Will keep everyone updated on this build.
Why are you on here when you should be working right now....chop chop. I want to see a whole car by dinner time....At lease you wont be itching fiberglass like me.
I'm doing the same as Iron man Joe's latest one. It's going to be a five window pickup.Yes It will be very low.I'm going with a 6'' dropped front axle.I have about 7 hrs in it right now.And about $535.00 in it now,Still have alot of steel on the ground.
I was going to do a sedan,But I decided to do a pickup.I have never done a steel car.I made the 32 in my picture. It all fiber glass,(Homemade)I have worked steel all my life.Been knowing Iron man Joe for a while,He has been after me to build a car from steel. So I decided too go for it.
Hot dang N.I. You're putting the rest of the scratch building world to shame.
I've said it before but I think your thread is testament to saying it again. I truly believe that scratch building is going to grow dramatically over the coming years as the cost of vintage tin and fiberglass replicas keeps rising. As your pictures show, it IS a viable alternative. Builders can keep their designs very simple and straightforward with a minimum of metal shaping or they can create very elaborate bodies with compound complex curves if they have the skills or desire to do so. And the honest truth is...you don't need to be some sort of metal massaging wizard to do it. (No diss on YOUR skills N.I. Just speaking of my own limited abilities.)
Kudos for posting this up. I'm sure it will inspire many other rodders to fire up their chop saws and welders to create their own dream machines. I'd love, one day, to see a whole section here on HR.Com of just scratch built bodies. Dozens and dozens of artistic creations emerging out of the minds of our members, from traditional to exotic and wild. All in the true spirit of back yard hot rodding.
Scratch built car IS where the hobby will be going. It is to expensive to buy an original body now if you can find a good one that don't need thousands of dollars in rust repair. The reproduction bodies are priced out of sight for the everyday rodder . So what so we do? We do what hot rodders do! we over come and adapt. I am embarking on a from scratch fiberglass car build ( making molds off a old vett) as we speak and i have never had so much fun in a build in my life. I am not spending a fortune doing it either. I think we will see alot more home built from scratch cars in the future. In fact they very well may be our future because of the price of everything to do a original car or a repo car. People like NEW INTERIORS and Iron Man and cboy are kicking the door wide open and showing everybody the creativity that can be expressed with these type of cars. The sky is the limit ...how high do you want to go with your imagination. Besides there is no better feeling then to tell some body at a cars show or cruise when they ask where you got the car from that you built it....from scratch! JMO Tim
Thanks Cboy and Tim!! I have alway said,The only thing that holds you back from doing something in life,Is yourself.I'm living my dream to the fullest. And I look at myself as your every day kind of guy.Just doing what I love to do.I do hope that alot more hot rodder's start to go for it.As to building there dream.Like said before.we need more people like the one's that alot of us remember from the pass. And looked up too.Building your own car is just alot of home work. It's not as bad as some might think.Make your plan, then work your plan.Again thanks for all the kind words in support,It really makes people keep going. Thanks!!!!!
P.S. I'm not trying to get to fancy with this build,Just want to build a nice and safe rat rod. But also keep the cost down.
