new inner rockers from EMS-kinda disappointed in quality-big difference side to side

I just got my inner rockers for my 37, and I am very disappointed

I already had the outer rockers, and once I started cutting I realized its all garbage

so I ordered inner rockers, thinking it would be easier than making some (I don't have really have any sheet metal tools)

the inner and outer are both from EMS, and I know that all this stuff needs cut, bent, and shaped to fit, but.....

the inners that just showed up, fit inside each other with the top one loose inside the bottom one?

shouldn't they be at least close, in size/shape to each other (LH side and RH side)?

see pic. below
(they are on the left), there is such a difference in width between the two, that I am able to slide the top one down 6" before they start to get tight?

I ran into a similar thing back in the mid 80s with 2 front fenders for my Chevy truck......I could just tell that one fender was much lighter, thinner than the other......They came from the same seller....Turns out when looking at the wrapping that one was made overseas. It started to rust out within a year, the other was fine. Chances are yours are made by 2 different manufacturers although sold by the same company.

I guess, since they dont show, they could be made to work. You could send them back.

well, EMS called me back and said that is the way they are supposed to be

he said they have measured a number of cars and they are all different from side to side, with the RH side being wider/taller

He said the rockers are the same way, so I checked, and they are

so all of this ?????? was for not, and just me not knowing my car well enough

always learning something new

so now I just need to quit questioning and start welding

Of course they are "Similar" to the original and "can be used if nothing else is available".

Honestly, that is all you can expect with repro parts, that they are "similar". If you expect more, you will be disappointed 8 out of 10 times.

Well mat ,it dont make much sence to me that one side would be wider than the other ....why not measure the ones on the car to find out for sure....and dont be surprized if the actual measurement is different than both of the new pieces....thats a very ez piece to have made at any local sheetmetal shop with a brake.

thanks db, there isnt a lot left to measure that isnt kinda rotten and out of shape

I just ordered them from EMS, because I already had thier rockers
so my thinking was it would all fit together better and match up

the price of the pieces wasn't too bad, its the shipping that starts to add up

but I live out in the bushes, so sometimes its easier to pick up the phone.
then drive into town (fuel $$) and have some made (shop labor & materials $$) , so I guess its not much more

There are very few new parts available for older cars that actally fit, and have all the holes in the right places, etc.

Just finished a chevelle, using a new right fender, core support, grille, bumper etc.
Nothing fit anywhere.
Hadda split the fender and re-weld it, in order to get it to fit the hood, coresupport, and filler panel. Hadda re-drill all the grille mounting holes in the filler panel, and core support, Hadda over haul th' factory fender to fit th' new "eyebrow" moulding, and th' bumper was junk, rough edges, mis aligned tag pocket, bolt holes in th' wrong places. But that's all you can get from Goodmark. And all the other dealers buy them from the same places.
On the camaro, we went through 3 sets of rocker mouldings, 4 dash pads, 3 sets of wheel opening mouldings, 2 sets of door handles, 5 sets of tail lights,
4 sets of door panels, 10 pairs of window cranks, and 2 consoles.
All came from 2 distributors, one in GA. and one in Louisville, KY. All from the same manufacturer. All junk, and no two alike. All were supposed to be best that can be had.
