New job and a new life, after 26 years I'm leaving michigan

Just got hired by a pharmaceutical company to do preclinical neuroscience work. I'm pretty stoked about my new job, I'll be working with great people for a great company doing inspiring work, and finally putting my degree to some use! Its certainly a far cry from the work I've been doing for the past year (treating the chronically mentally ill in their homes mostly in project housing and ghettos)... I'm glad to be done with that.

Big business sure does treat you nicely. I've never really had much of anything... this is going to be a big change. They're sending movers over to take all my stuff out to the east coast and everything. They're going to give me like twice as much as I make right now, but that doesn't even feel like that big of a deal. I'm just happy to feel like I've earned a good job and that I have a solid and stimulating career ahead of me. I suppose its partly bittersweet because it is such a great opportunity, but all of my family lives in michigan. The economy here is so bad you really just have to go where the work is.

I probably won't be on very much in the next couple months, i'm moving at the end of september and road tripping between the end of my current job and then. If any of you guys hotrod in new jersey, drop me a line!

The formula is parked up north for the time being. I have to seek out housing and I'm not sure how much storage or workspace there will be yet. I'll probably truck it out there later on or sell it.

Its actually in sussex county in NW NJ. Cost of living there is about the same as it is here (Ann Arbor is the most expensive city in michigan) so I dont think it will be too much of a shock. There's going to be so much more stuff in my area. I can't wait for some cool weekend trips!

yeah have fun in new jersey.
Just giving you a hard time. Sometimes you have to make a move to better your job situation. Something I don't really have the guts to do. I lived here all my life and its what I know. Not a ton of things to do here either, but at times not having a bunch of hustle and bustle going on around you is nice. The job situation isn't much better here then in MI, not a lot of jobs to come by, at least ones giving decent pay and benefits. My line of work is fairly hard work, and dirty and hazardous to health, and the pay they give you around here to do it isn't real great. I wish you well with the new job and hope you get what your looking for.

Good luck Erik.

You've gotta move to where the jobs are, something I really didn't want to do.

It sounds like it will be nice. Philly & NYC will be within a couple hour drive, right? Sounds like you have no excuse for being bored lol!

Yeah its about an hour from either place. Kenseth, that picture you posted is from newark. It really is a hole down there, I'm glad to be far away from that.

I really appreciate all the well-wishing guys. Thanks!
