my 86 vette ,w/slight engine mods,is determined to do whatever it takes to keep the 700R4 transmission from functioning properly.Case in point :had rebuild done in "05" added shift kit (i liked cherping in 2nd ) tranny ran good for 3000 miles and blew out 2nd,3rd,4th .Didn't take car backto original shop,
because, (a) 1 yr warranty was up ,and(b) I also thought it not a smart move.So i went to a national franchize they said shift kit was not good idea , but they could rebuild with no problem.Well 7 weeks later I get back my wounded /restored car and shift points are not correct, not a big problem as it was time for winter storage(pennsylvania mountain country is brutle).Fast foward to warmer weather in "06" shift points corrected ,but car doesn't shift out of 1st when I put thefoot in it,(shift will occur if i take foot off the pedal),at in town speed's (30-35mph) car isn' sure if it likes third better than fourth and shifts back ,and forth and back, and forth and ,(You Know),if i hold the speed. To me these are all minor annoyances compared to the BIG problem. When the car is driven at respectable speeds (obeying the limits) fluid is leaking from the transmission onto the exaust system(smoke rolls out from under the car when i stop,(causing passers bye to stare) The last rebuild is still under parts warranty, but I'm affraid my extorsionist shop owner will find out there is no problem with any of his new parts. And im off for a ride again (but not in the vette.).A hot rod buddie says torq converter is problem .Any body out there have any words of wisdom?
