DO YOU SILL HAVE FUEL SHOOTING 6" OUT OF THE CARB??????

You made reference to this in your second post. If that is still happening you can time it untill the cows come home and it will never start because it's flooded........

Verify TDC

Pull #1 plug and put your finger over spark plug hole to plug it. Then bring your engine up to TDC, you should have air coming out the hole. It's best to try this with the battery disconnected and with a wrench on your crank, back it off from where your #1 TDC is now about 1/2 revolution, then bring it back up to TDC with your finger in the hole. Verify your piston is TDC with pencil or wooden dowel nothing metal. check your timing marks on balancer. If you didnt get alot of air/hissing from around your finger you are off 180. My .02 worth

Sounds like your 180 out. the fuel being sprayed out of the carb. means it is trying to fire while an intake valve is still open, thats normal.

i had probs getting my enigne to start and it was 180 degrees out and i had the wrong wire hooked up to the distrib, it was dead. needed to hook up the hot wire and pull the distrib out and turn the engine over exactly 1 turn and put it back in and it started up.

I had this same problem....I'm always putting them in 180 off...dont get it hehehe

You'll need a friend, Remove # 1 plug, place a finger in the plug hole, have someone turn (spin) the engine over. It would be safe to remove the coil wire first, for saftey. bump the engine over slowly, as the piston come up, it will build up pressure, once it starts to blow your finger out of the plug hole have them stop turning the engine. look at the timing marks and move it( the engine) slowly until the marks are on tdc. Now remove the dis. cap and see if the rotor is pointing at # 1 plug wire if it is, HELP , if it at # 6 you're out 180, raise the distributor watching the button as you raise it, its going to move a little, when it stops remember where it is pointing and turn it 180, drop it back down, it won't go alway down until you turn the engine over half a turn. tighen it down and try it again . lol

Fast and easy.... just put a notch in your rotor just beide the screw, same as the other side and turn it around and you are done. no messing with distributor in and out,
