Need help 350-383 stroker

Im 19, dont have alot of experience with engines but enough to get myself by and i want to build a 383 stroker. i have a rebuilt chev 350, 4 bolt from an 82-86 chev, and im pretty sure a turbo 400 tranny. All i need is a parts list and price estimates. im not on a really low budget more of the medium price range i want it to hold together for a while. I know people who will help me build too but it wont be till next summer i want to buy parts as i get money through the winter. My email addy is enygma500@hotmail.com any help and tips would be appreciated. Also its going into a 79 camaro z-28. so if theres any mods I'll need to do that would also be very helpful thanks.

new and need help building 383 stroker

sorry im not sure if the other one worked right or not....umm . first off introduction. I live in Lethbridge, Alberta. Im 19 and own a 79 camaro z-28 with a rebuilt 350, have had it for about 4 months. But i have a couple problems its not fast enough for me, and its not loud enough. what im looking for is a list of parts i would need and the approximate prices for medium quality parts. im lookin to spend about 25-3000 canadian, not including the headers and exhaust. But now for the exhaust what kind of muffler would i want to put on the to give it a nice mean sound. And i dont want no f***ing rice rocket sound. they sound like a bloody cat being strangled. I already know I would need a 3.75" crank and and 5.76" rods i think it was and got a price on those I just need any other smaller things, and tips to help would be appreciated. Oh yeah and Im sorry if this is the wrong forum...like I said Im new. And the email I would need the list tpo go to would be enygma500@hotmail.com. Thanks everyone for the help in advance.

Well, your best bet would be to look though places that sell stroker kits. IE, Summit, Jegs, etc... Then look for places around your area that'll do machine work on your block for you. You dont HAVE to have any certain length rods, but the rods you choose play a factor on the results the engine produces. You didnt mention what you wanted the car to do, other then 'go fast'. Street/strip, drag, circle. etc... If you want it loud, buy two 3" straight pipes, weld a piece inbetween them(to make an H pipe), and hook em up. Beautiful sound. extra tip, swap out the gears in the rear for a little extra pickup.:) Read though previous posts though, tons of information on 383s.

383 Stroker kit

I put together a 383 Stroker for a friend last year. It ran great and held together when he spun out on the track at 8300 rpm on the playback tach. We got all of our parts through speedway motors. I would recommend starting with them. We got the whole rotating assembly through them including cam for $1200.

Here is a site with over 100 combos, take your pick.

I converted Candaian to American, and found that you have around $2500 American to spend. I found a pretty good stroker rotating assembly out of jegs for $1,050. http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...90&prmenbr=361 There are two paths you can take from here. Either get iron unported iron heads now, and start building, or save up a little more and get aluminum CNC ported AFR heads. The AFR heads will make around 50 more hp over a set of iron eagles/sportsmans/lightnings out of the box assuming you have the same setup, and they are aluminum which will dissapate heat faster and allow you to run more compression and stay on pump gas. As far as iron heads go, I would recommend dart iron eagles or Vortecs. The Vortecs are good because they are around $200 cheaper, and will perform as well as the iron eagles overall. The down side to the Vortecs is that it really isnt worth porting them in the future, and they have thin castings which tend to crack when they are overheated. Either way, I would recommend something like the the Comp XE274H (230 236 @.050 .490 .490 lift 1800-6000 powerband) cam if the car is a daily driver. I am not sure if you need to buy an intake manifold and carbeurator with the money that you have, but if you do, I think vortecs are the only way to go and stay anywhere close to your budjet.

here is a breakdown of the parts and costs

Vortec heads (with spring upgrade) $650
rotating assembly $1050
cam and lifters $160
intake manifold kit (performer RPM) $180
carbeurator holley 650 DP with fuel line $400

This all comes up to $2440

I am not sure how much machine work would be where you live, but I am sure it would put you a little over. This is the cheapest way out that I could think of, and still make some really good power.

If you wanted different heads, here are the prices for the other heads, and estimated hp and torque levels with the cam and intake listed above.

Dart iron eagle 200's $1000 out of Summit ~425 hp 430 tq
Vortec heads $650 out of Scoggin Dickey ~420 hp 460 tq
AFR 195cc heads $1300 from AFR ~ 470 hp 490 tq

Good luck
Adam

marvin,start a ,clean thread
start with the heads, then decide rpm range and
match the cubes to match
cr and cam profile to We'refit
how much air does your system flow?
