You scared me when you said 10.2 with iron heads and a short cam. Best guess on your build is 9.55:1, which will work well with the cam, but you didn't tailor your squish very well. Assuming a nominal 0.040" compressed gasket thickness and 0.025" piston deck height, your squish is at 0.065".

HERE'S a thread on the Melling oil pumps. You don't need a high volume pump anyway.

Unless the problem w/the lightweight castings has already been taken care of, or if your guy has NOS pumps, the sheet below would have been in the box w/the pump:

Melling supplies their castings to others, so the problem is not just Melling.

Pumps to watch out for:

Melling M55
Melling M55A
Melling M55HV
Sealed Power 224-4143
Moroso 22100
Moroso 22135
Canton #21-500

Melling "Select" castings are supposed to be OK for high performance use. Moroso uses the Select castings for their p/n 22138 and 22139 oil pumps made for 8.25" deep oil pans.

Update!

Well, the motor is primed and timed, used the zink additive, have great oil pressure, 80psi @ 2500 rpms but im having a fuel delivery problem, could only run it for 30sec @ 1800-2500 rpms 2 times. Have to trace the fuel issue next thursday then try the break in sequence again!

Update!

Ok, the motor is in, ran it for 20 min @ 2000- 2500 rpms. Temp was steady @ 180-190, oil pressure was a steady 60 psi after warm up. The front clip is bolted up, still have to adjust fenders and such. Dont have the tranny yet, hoping some time next week then I can drive it!

Heres some more pics of the motor installed. The fan is going to be behind the grill, have to find one still, my wife cooled the engine with the garden hose to the radiator! She didnt like the noise too much, straight headers!

Almost Done!!

Found a 16" S blade electric fan on craigslist for $20 bucks, fits perfectly! Only an inch of room from the water pump pulley to the fan tho! Tranny will be done this afternoon then installing it tomorrow. The trans cooler is installed. This is exciting!

Done!!

Finally done! Was at my friends shop last night till 2am doing the exaust system.....whew what a pain! Drove it 40 miles yesterday to seat the rings. Went well, got it up to 55-60mph then slowed down, kept doing that for about 25 or more miles on the expressway. Still have final tune to do. Its a lot of fun! Its got some pretty good torque, Im impressed!
