You scared me when you said 10.2 with iron heads and a short cam. Best guess on your build is 9.55:1, which will work well with the cam, but you didn't tailor your squish very well. Assuming a nominal 0.040" compressed gasket thickness and 0.025" piston deck height, your squish is at 0.065".

Update!
Well...the dang starter wont bolt up with the flex plate I have! Have to go back to my friends and get the flex plate off the 283, the starter came off the 283 so mind as well get the flex plate also!

Update!
Well, the motor is primed and timed, used the zink additive, have great oil pressure, 80psi @ 2500 rpms but im having a fuel delivery problem, could only run it for 30sec @ 1800-2500 rpms 2 times. Have to trace the fuel issue next thursday then try the break in sequence again!

Update!
Ok, the motor is in, ran it for 20 min @ 2000- 2500 rpms. Temp was steady @ 180-190, oil pressure was a steady 60 psi after warm up. The front clip is bolted up, still have to adjust fenders and such. Dont have the tranny yet, hoping some time next week then I can drive it!

Heres some more pics of the motor installed. The fan is going to be behind the grill, have to find one still, my wife cooled the engine with the garden hose to the radiator! She didnt like the noise too much, straight headers!

Almost Done!!
Found a 16" S blade electric fan on craigslist for $20 bucks, fits perfectly! Only an inch of room from the water pump pulley to the fan tho! Tranny will be done this afternoon then installing it tomorrow. The trans cooler is installed. This is exciting!
