new rebuilt 327 trying to get right

I just got my 327 back in the car. It has been a wild ride. I tried with a running motor, but it had stuck rings. So i rebulit my 327 back with stock reman crank, stock bore, stock rings, flat top pistons. It has mid 70s 305 58cc heads, stock Q-jet intake, 600 holly with adp. plate been breaking it in easy. Some 3000, some 3500 runs, but no hard W.O.T. been adj. timing and carb. Problem is carb runs rich even when adj. screws turned in to 1 turn out. Car runs sluggish from dead stop, But comes on strong mid range. Sounds like it will turn some good RPMs. Cam is edelbrock 0.420 lift 278 duration lobe separation 112 1 5/8 long tube headers 2 1/2 header mufflers. Just wondering what you all think. P.S. Want to thank every one who has helped on this build, whether you know it or not.great site, great admins great members. P.P.S Sorry for my typing skills.

Also i put a 65 power valve and 62 jets in the carb, checked secondary spring it looked to be silver, also removed small gasket from the vac. secondary hole. was like a round gasket blocking air hole. Also had a round open gasket on the carb body. Just thought that might help on my diagnoses. I dont know what it is timed at have no light, am getting one (THANKS) Wormy.
