New rule in the engine forum, PLEASE READ!

In response to multiple complaints from the mods and members we have created a new "READ ME" at the top of the engine forum page located at the following address;

http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/you-...um-150530.html

Please review this post to ensure your questions are located in the appropriate forum(s).

The volume of traffic and posts in this forum have required this action to ensure members posts do not fall off the main page where they typically do not receive the attention they deserve.

We are currently reviewing this new "rule" and responses to it, please respond in this thread if you have any questions or suggestions.

I will copy this post in the Lounge to garner as many members opinions as possible.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong since I'm in the vast minority with my original position.

How about this......I don't see the "report post" icon on this forum. If someone posts inane garbage, we can self police by simply hitting the "report post"

Since the management is predetermined to be hard ***** on it, which I like, this can self police.

Sorry, wrong thread, I'll repost in the other one.

Each post has a "report bad post" link. It's in the top right corner of each reply, a little red triangle.

AH ok, I didn't know that is what that was. I'm accustomed to seeing it as an icon spelled out that says "report post".

How about some constructive criticisms?

Perhaps we should eliminate the "beginner" forum and let things fly as they are? I moved 20 posts last night, all of them to the beginner forum except for one...it was a driveshaft question.

Experienced members are not participating, this is everyones loss.

Questions;

1) If you have an engine problem because you haven't done the basic tune up does it belong in this forum?

2) If your car is making a funny noise does it belong in this forum?

3) If you can't decide on a 650cfm or a 600cfm carb for your engine does it belong in this forum?

4) If your asking "how much horsepower does my engine have" does it belong in this forum?

5) If your question is "I have a 6-71 blower on a 440ci SBC alchohol blown dragster and I need a adjustable blow off valve supplier" does it belong in this forum?

Perhaps we require an "Advanced Engine" subforum for those more experienced questions. Since there are less of these style questions and they are usually posted by more experienced members it should have it own forum. Moving these on occasion would be easier since there is less volume.

Please discuss.

1) yes
2) yes
3) yes
4) yes
5) yes- and with a 6-71 on a 440 SBC drag only application you probably don't need to worry about a blow off valve. How overdriven is your blower, what boost is it making at the top and bottom of your shifts? Unless OD'ed hard and with a really good race prep that blower seems small for those cubes, especially in a racing application.

Also there are other forums that are directed to more advanced engine design and theroy if that is waht they're looking for I assume they can find it with Google. Why are you trying to change what works?

BINGO, BINGO and friggin BINGO. Not only is it a useless thread its got 5 stars.
You gotta be kidding me. And no doubt lots of the so-called engine gods have posted their engines for all to see. Over 370 posts OMG
Leave things the way they are. If you don't like a thread then don't participate in it. Pretty simple if you ask me!!!!

I just looked over some of the stuff moved to "hotrodding basics" from the engine forum.

If they stay true to their principles.....
Looks like the moderators will be moving at least half of the engine stuff to the basics forum.

cam choices
overheating/ blown gaskets
carb size
single or dual plane intakes
piston types
exhaust sizing
etc.
etc.
etc.

that is all pretty darn BASIC
